Crafted with Purpose
Each of our bags and accessories is meticulously handcrafted, reflecting the depth of our African heritage, the beauty of our wildlife, and the warm-hearted spirit of our people.
Genuine Leather & Hides
We source our premium leathers and hides locally, ethically and sustainably, ensuring the highest quality products that will be cherished for a lifetime.
No two hides are alike - just as the unique nose prints and markings of the Nguni cows are as individual as human fingerprints, so too are our bags original masterpieces.
A Talisman of Luck & Love
Every bead in our accessories is thoughtfully handpicked and woven into intricate patterns by talented local artisans. These designs are inspired by South Africa's rich cultural heritage and convey messages of goodwill, safe journeys, and love - an adornment as meaningful as it is beautiful. A great way to glam up your bag!
Our Piekfyn Team
We are a partnership of passionate South Africans with international roots and a deep love for our birth country. No matter where life takes us, the dust, sunsets, and unshakable spirit of Africa will always be a part of us. The PIEKFYN Team is dedicated to empowering men and women in communities across KwaZulu-Natal and South Africa.
Our Mission
At PIEKFYN we strive to preserve the timeless allure of South Africa.
Through exquisite craftsmanship, we seamlessly merge the rugged beauty of the bushveld with sophisticated safari elegance and vibrant Afropunk chic.
We honour and elevate South Africa's dynamic design heritage.
Where Hemingway meets Westwood.
Craftwerk
Viennese Precision Meets South African Soul.
Behind every stitch, every fold, and every perfectly tailored detail of our PIEKFYN bags is the expertise of an exceptional Viennese tailor, pattern maker, and fashion designer.
Our bags are deeply embedded in a fabric of history that reaches as far back as the Second World War.
As the grandchild of a dynamic duo comprising of an Austrian opera soprano and the famous poet, cabaretist, and lyricist, Theo Prosel, who was responsible for the birth of Munich’s Café society as we know it, PIEKFYN’s pattern maker Helmi Lüth, followed her exceptionally talented mother’s path by studying at the same Viennese fashion school, HLMW9 Michelbeuern, and completed her Masters Degree in the art of classical couture.
A relocation by her brother to South Africa in the 1960s led to a chance meeting with her future husband, German textile engineer Jürgen Lüth, and the rest as they say is history;
Helmi‘s South African footprint began by designing for numerous textile and fashion houses, such as SA Clothing, Mannion Kid’s Designs and Pan Textiles, owning her own boutique store in the 1990s called simply “Helmi’s” and racking up an impressive private client list that included celebrities such as Penny Coelen Rey (Miss South Africa and Miss World 1958).
From the architectural beauty of Vienna to the refined traditions of European tailoring, Helmi Lüth blends bohemian heritage techniques with modern innovation inspired by the untamed beauty, raw textures, rich colours, and vibrant spirit of South African culture and the land which stole her heart so many decades ago when she made it her home.
Her mastery of precision and timeless craftsmanship ensures that each PIEKFYN piece we create is not just an accessory, but a work of art and an ode to a fusion of two contrasting worlds and her life’s work.
Experience a collection that’s soulful and luxurious, adventurous and untamed, yet true to her craft.
